Types of Fire Extinguishers We Work With:
Class A
Extinguishers classified as Class A will extinguish fires in common combustibles, including paper and wood. The amount of water the fire extinguisher can store, and the amount of fire it can put out are both indicated by the numerical rating for this class of fire extinguisher.
Class B
Class B extinguishers should be used to put out flames caused by combustible substances like grease, oil, and gasoline. The numerical rating for this class of fire extinguishers indicates the approximate square footage that a non-expert person may expect to put out a flammable liquid fire
Class C
It is appropriate to use Class C extinguishers on electrically charged fires. This class of fire extinguishers has no numerical rating. The extinguishing agent is non-conductive if the letter "C" is present.
Class D
Class D extinguishers are made specifically for the type of metal in question and are intended for combustible metals. They have no picture designators. These extinguishers typically don't have a rating and aren't given a rating for usage in multiple types of fires.
Class K
The classification of fires involving cooking fats or oils is "Class K" in the American system and "Class F" in the European/Australasian systems. Although these fires are essentially a subclass of flammable liquid/gas fires, their unique traits, particularly their greater flash point, are deemed significant enough to be recognized individually. Such fires can be put out with water mist, dry powder, CO2, or, for smaller fires, mechanical smothering. Hoods that fit over appropriate fire extinguishers may also aid in putting out the flames.
CO2
Excessive pressure fills carbon dioxide extinguishers with non-flammable carbon dioxide gas. A CO2 extinguisher can be identified by its hard horn and the absence of a pressure gauge. When you use one of these extinguishers, pieces of dry ice may erupt from the horn due to the high pressure inside the cylinder.
